Train travelers will soon be seeing announcements like these for the Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway

This morning, officials announced at a press conference that the Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Train’s cheapest ticket price would be RMB 410, while its most expensive would be RMB 1750. The highest ticket price is for a “business class ticket” (two seats: one first class, one a special “sightseeing seat”) for the train that runs at 300 km/h, while the RMB 410 price is for a second class seat on the 250 km/h train. The slightly slower train also sells a first class ticket at RMB 650, while the faster train also sells first and second seats at RMB 935 and RMB 555, respectively.

In addition to this exciting announcement, the China Railway High-Speed authority is setting up a website at www.12306.cn for travelers to buy tickets online. Tickets are expected to be sold this way sometime soon, with official train operation to begin on July 1st. [Netease]
