When people talked about Red China fifty years ago, it had a much different connotation than it does today. The Wine business is flourishing in China, and contrary to popular beliefs, Chinese wines have taken root and flourished. Just ask our Guest Editor Jim Boyce, also known as Beijing Boyce, who explores the phenomenon on his blog The Grape Wall of China and in two articles in this issue.

We also spoke to Jeannie Cho Lee and Julia Zhu of the Hilton Beijing, arguably two of the east’s most enchanting sommeliers, about pairing Asian food with wine, and what it’s like to be a sommelier. If you want more specific recommendations on how to pair foods, we included an article on that as well. This issue also includes a dose of good humor and wisdom, as Kempinski sommelier Jean-Claude Terdjemane shares how his culinary career took a detour into break-dancing, and Agenda gives you a handful of reasons that’ you shouldn’t feel too bad about your wine habit, as long as you only drink in moderation. That, and much more, in this issue of Agenda.
